Ancient & Modern Sounds

Rasmee

Rasmee is a singer and songwriter from North East Thailand with a father of Khmer descent. Her music is the unique mix of traditional Mor lam-Jariang cultures with Soul. She calls her singing style “Isaan Soul”.

In 2016, Rasmee was awarded best female singer of the year, best album Isaan Soul and best song “Maya” at the Kom Chad Luek Awards.

Krom Monster

An experimental quartet combining traditional Cambodian instruments with contemporary electronics and improvisation. The music involves resampling traditional instruments, reworking traditional themes and blending Khmer themes with contemporary electronics & urban sounds.

Krom Monster was formed nearly 7 years ago, as part of a cultural project with David Gunn and Cambodian Living Arts. They recently released their second collection of songs that were used as the soundtrack for local film “Mind Cage”.

The Kampot Playboys

Their first performance at ChubMet 2016 was their first in Siem Reap and one of the festival’s highlights. The Playboys blend rock with passionate Khmer vocals and the textures of the Tro Sau Toch, a traditional Khmer bowed instrument.

Frontman “Chiet” is great at rousing the audience into a frenzy and behind him the band plays loud and hard. Consequently their shows usually have great energy and an accompanying air of anything could happen.
